Street Focus 01: Capturing the Essence of the Ordinary – with Thomas Leuthard
Podcast: Download (Duration: 21:05 — 29.0MB)
Welcome to episode 001 of Street Focus! I'm excited to have joined the TWiP family and to be producing this much anticipated show! Listen to the show I recorded with Frederick Van Johnson (episode 000) to find out what this show will be about, and the cool stuff we've got planned.
If you are a street photographer, you've undoubtedly heard of Swiss street photographer Thomas Leuthard. If not, you're missing out and I urge to check out his work, ebooks and tutorials after you enjoy this conversation.
Thomas is a passionate photographer based in the heart of Switzerland who travels to the big cities of this world to witness and document on the street. He works with a discreet Micro Four Third camera to capture the interesting essence of the ordinary life happening in public. To him the camera is a black box capturing the moment his eye is seeing. There are more important questions in photography than asking about what gear you are using.

Nice interview Valerie. But stop rushing your speaking rhythm 🙂 Relax…
Yes, I agree. Valerie needs to slow down a bit and ask one question at a time and wait for a response rather than firing off two or three questions in one sentence.
Thanks for the feedback. It’s easier said than done. I’m really new at this and will get better with time and experience 🙂
Henry, I know. Very hard for me to slow down. But I will learn! 🙂
Where is the rest of the print interview? The last sentence said something about gear being used then – poof – no more article.
Sorry Tracy but this is an audio podcast, not an article. the show notes only give an outline of what is being said.
Listening is for me, a far less rewarding and informative process than reading. After three minutes, I could no longer bear to strain to hear and understand what is being said. I do really appreciate his images and style of working
Short conversation podcasts are a good way to get to know a photographer. If you prefer written interviews I’m sure there has been a few done with Thomas. It should be easy to find by doing a Google search.
Nice job valerie.
Thank you for your support! It means a lot, I’m really new at this! 🙂
Great start on the podcast. Thomas Leuthard has a unique style that is inspiring. Not to go too much into gear, but you never asked Thomas what lenses or focal lengths he prefers. Look forward to more shows.
Thanks John! Interviewing is much harder than it seems… Especially with the time contraint. It’s best to let the conversation flow and not have a series of questions. Will only get better with experience 🙂
Very nice Javan! Thank you for listening to the show 🙂
